Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT, Consumer Discretionary and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI), which rose 7.18% or 1.59 points to trade at 23.73 at the close. Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) added 4.73% or 0.96 points to end at 21.26 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) was up 4.08% or 3.13 points to 79.77 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE), which lost 1.27% or 0.09 points to trade at 7.01 in late trade. Chartwell Retirement Residences (TSX:CSH_u) declined 1.15% or 0.12 points to end at 10.33 and Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd (TSX:FFH) shed 0.94% or 10.63 points to 1,120.84.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 655 to 338 and 88 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 9.31% to 11.50.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.97% or 18.85 to $1,965.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.36% or 1.09 to hit $81.19 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.18% or 0.99 to trade at $84.86 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.30% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.29% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.60% at 103.36.
