Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT, Energy and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP), which rose 11.33% or 3.22 points to trade at 31.64 at the close. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) added 11.01% or 4.48 points to end at 45.17 and Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) was up 10.50% or 0.23 points to 2.42 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES), which lost 4.73% or 0.30 points to trade at 6.04 in late trade. Loblaw Companies Limited (TSX:L) declined 3.77% or 4.59 points to end at 117.09 and Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) shed 3.67% or 0.16 points to 4.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 732 to 245 and 93 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.29% to 21.75.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.86% or 14.80 to $1,732.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 3.35% or 3.18 to hit $98.16 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 3.00% or 2.98 to trade at $102.44 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.49% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.30% to 0.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.68% at 106.31.
