Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Healthcare and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN), which rose 11.35% or 0.430 points to trade at 4.220 at the close. Enghouse Systems Ltd (TO:ENGH) added 9.35% or 5.20 points to end at 60.80 and Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF) was up 7.98% or 0.30 points to 4.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN), which lost 7.64% or 1.08 points to trade at 13.06 in late trade. Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO) declined 7.44% or 0.80 points to end at 9.95 and Toronto Dominion Bank (TO:TD) shed 5.55% or 3.88 points to 66.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 810 to 384 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.98% to 12.79.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.07% or 0.85 to $1204.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.70% or 0.84 to hit $48.44 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.57% or 0.82 to trade at $51.37 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.34% to 0.7427, while CAD/EUR fell 0.64% to 0.6951.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.67% at 101.30.
