Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Materials, Real Estate and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO), which rose 33.99% or 0.8600 points to trade at 3.3900 at the close. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) added 17.95% or 0.63 points to end at 4.14 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) was up 15.14% or 3.555 points to 27.030 in late trade.
Biggest losers included OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC), which lost 11.07% or 0.280 points to trade at 2.250 in late trade. Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD) declined 4.91% or 0.52 points to end at 10.08 and Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:SEA) shed 4.75% or 0.80 points to 16.04.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 544 to 485 and 144 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.04% to 10.29.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.62% or 9.10 to $1465.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.33% or 1.33 to hit $58.34 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.02% or 1.26 to trade at $63.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.15% to 0.7528, while CAD/EUR rose 0.27% to 0.6806.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 97.880.
