Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Energy, Real Estate and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.79%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which rose 11.59% or 1.585 points to trade at 15.265 at the close. Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA) added 7.16% or 0.725 points to end at 10.855 and Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON) was up 5.54% or 0.60 points to 11.44 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Husky Energy Inc . (TSX:HSE), which lost 6.58% or 0.38 points to trade at 5.33 in late trade. Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX:LSPD) declined 6.21% or 4.45 points to end at 67.20 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG) shed 5.81% or 0.15 points to 2.43.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 694 to 364 and 97 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.23% or 4.20 to $1783.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.97% or 0.44 to hit $45.09 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.24% or 0.60 to trade at $47.65 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.09% to 0.7705, while CAD/EUR rose 0.23% to 0.6450.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 91.877.
