July 19 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index rose on Thursday, as energy stocks gained from slightly higher oil prices.
* At 9:38 a.m. ET (1338 GMT), the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX Composite index .GSPTSE was up 58.42 points, or 0.35 percent, at 16,535.82.
* The energy sector .SPTTEN climbed 0.6 percent as U.S. crude CLc1 prices gained 1.3 percent and Brent crude LCOc1 added 0.5 percent. O/R
* Seven of the index's 11 major sectors were higher, led by gains in energy.
* Shares of Enbridge Inc ENB.TO , which added 4.5 percent, and TransCanada Corp TRP.TO , up 2.5 percent, were the two top boosts to the energy sector.
* Canada lost 10,500 jobs in June, driven by a decline in hiring in the finance and real estate sector, according to a report from ADP. President Donald Trump on Wednesday sowed fresh doubts about the future of NAFTA, suggesting that the United States may pursue a trade deal with Mexico, and then do a separate one with Canada later. As earnings kicked off, Canada's largest wireless provider, Rogers Communications Inc RCIb.TO , topped analysts' average estimate for profit, while pipeline operator Kinder Morgan (NYSE:KMI) Canada KML.TO on Wednesday posted a quarterly profit that nearly halved. Activist investor John Paulson's hedge fund urged Detour Gold Corp DGC.TO to call a special shareholder meeting to push for change in the Canadian miner's board. On the TSX, 149 issues were higher, while 91 issues declined for a 1.64-to-1 ratio favouring gainers, with 12.48 million shares traded.
* The biggest percentage gainers on the TSX were shares of Paramount Resources POU.TO , which jumped 3.6 percent, and Russel Metals RUS.TO , which rose 3.2 percent after a rating upgrade.
* First Quantum Minerals FM.TO fell 4.7 percent, top decliner on the TSX, followed by shares of Lucara Diamond Corp LUC.TO , down 2.8 percent.
* The most heavily traded shares by volume were Peregrine Diamond PGD.TO , Bombardier Inc BBDb.TO and Trevali Mining Corp TV.TO .
* The TSX posted two new 52-week highs and one new low.
* Across all Canadian issues there were 13 new 52-week highs and 10 new lows, with total volume of 23.91 million shares.
