Proactive Investors - General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) will be laying off about 1,300 workers at two of its Michigan manufacturing plants early in the new year, the automaker said on Thursday.

At its Orion Assembly plant, 945 workers will be laid off as the company wraps up production of the Chevrolet Bolt EV. The factory is being converted for EV truck production starting in late 2025.

At GM’s Lansing Grand River plant, 369 workers are being laid off as it ends the production of the Chevrolet Camaro. The facility will continue to produce the Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT5 vehicles, GM confirmed.

"GM anticipates having job opportunities for all impacted team members per the provisions of the United Auto Workers (UAW)-GM National Agreement,” the company said in a statement.

Members of the UAW union laid off at the Orion plant will be offered other jobs at GM’s Michigan plants, including at Factory ZERO in Detroit-Hamtramck.

“Orion Assembly salaried employees will also be placed in other internal opportunities in accordance with GM policy,” the company said.

Shares of General Motors added 0.9% at US$36.57 before Friday’s opening bell after finishing 6.7% higher on Thursday.
