Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Food & Beverages, Media and Chemicals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 0.24%, while the MDAX index added 0.69%, and the TecDAX index added 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which rose 1.77% or 0.205 points to trade at 11.790 at the close. Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) added 1.44% or 1.390 points to end at 98.170 and Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) was up 1.32% or 0.575 points to 44.030 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Allianz SE VNA O.N. (DE:ALVG), which lost 6.58% or 9.850 points to trade at 139.950 in late trade. Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) declined 2.11% or 0.315 points to end at 14.630 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) shed 2.02% or 0.144 points to 7.000.
The top performers on the MDAX were Axel Springer SE (DE:SPRGn) which rose 2.23% to 49.470, Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which was up 1.97% to settle at 39.385 and MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (DE:MTXGn) which gained 1.69% to close at 82.900.
The worst performers were Leoni AG NA O.N. (DE:LEOGn) which was down 3.11% to 30.510 in late trade, Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which lost 2.73% to settle at 8.70 and Duerr AG O.N. (DE:DUEG) which was down 1.53% to 66.130 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which rose 5.29% to 4.317, Jenoptik AG O.N. (DE:JENG) which was up 2.33% to settle at 13.855 and Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which gained 2.01% to close at 58.770.
The worst performers were Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was down 1.40% to 42.815 in late trade, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which lost 1.34% to settle at 8.719 and Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which was down 1.34% to 3.461 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 461 to 300 and 30 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 2.71% to 22.99.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.26% or 3.35 to $1277.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.65% or 1.16 to hit $44.94 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.11% or 0.94 to trade at $45.56 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.68% to 1.1408, while EUR/GBP fell 0.66% to 0.7872.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.48% at 93.72.
