Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Technology, Utilities and Media sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 1.17%, while the MDAX index climbed 1.38%, and the TecDAX index climbed 2.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which rose 3.66% or 0.448 points to trade at 12.672 at the close. RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) added 3.25% or 0.510 points to end at 16.185 and Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) was up 3.09% or 0.910 points to 30.380 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG), which lost 0.69% or 0.160 points to trade at 22.940 in late trade. Deutsche Telekom AG Na (DE:DTEGn) added 0.42% or 0.055 points to end at 13.070 and Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) gained 0.58% or 0.480 points to 82.880.
The top performers on the MDAX were Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which rose 5.42% to 36.160, Krones AG O.N. (DE:KRNG) which was up 3.83% to settle at 111.200 and Gerresheimer AG (BS:GXId) which gained 3.71% to close at 67.700.
The worst performers were Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which was down 1.68% to 0.36 in late trade, Norma Group AG NA O.N. (DE:NOEJ) which lost 0.86% to settle at 57.350 and Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which was down 0.61% to 139.15 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which rose 8.17% to 11.850, Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was up 7.96% to settle at 116.700 and S&T AG (F:SANT1) which gained 4.76% to close at 20.920.
The worst performers were GFT Technologies AG (DE:GFTG) which was down 2.40% to 11.370 in late trade, RIB Software AG Na (DE:RIB) which lost 1.65% to settle at 23.800 and Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which was down 0.49% to 10.200 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 533 to 206 and 64 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 18.88% to 20.63.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.47% or 19.50 to $1349.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.32% or 0.19 to hit $59.38 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.51% or 0.32 to trade at $63.04 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.30% to 1.2389, while EUR/GBP fell 0.18% to 0.8876.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 89.29.
