Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecoms, Insurance and Chemicals sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Construction, Retail and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 0.08%, while the MDAX index fell 0.67%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which rose 3.08% or 0.545 points to trade at 18.260 at the close. Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) added 2.20% or 0.275 points to end at 12.760 and Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) was up 1.29% or 1.300 points to 102.050 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG), which lost 2.01% or 1.780 points to trade at 86.720 in late trade. Adidas AG (DE:ADSGN) declined 1.91% or 2.850 points to end at 146.400 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) shed 1.54% or 0.355 points to 22.665.
The top performers on the MDAX were Airbus Group SE (F:AIRG) which rose 1.14% to 64.116, K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) which was up 1.01% to settle at 22.940 and Norma Group AG NA O.N. (DE:NOEJ) which gained 0.89% to close at 40.445.
The worst performers were Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which was down 4.30% to 62.150 in late trade, Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which lost 3.74% to settle at 35.92 and Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG) which was down 2.50% to 64.300 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which rose 2.57% to 21.155, STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was up 2.36% to settle at 47.800 and Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which gained 1.72% to close at 40.555.
The worst performers were Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which was down 3.00% to 43.605 in late trade, GFT Technologies AG (DE:GFTG) which lost 2.85% to settle at 20.650 and CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which was down 2.59% to 37.750 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 418 to 330 and 31 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 5.23% to 16.39.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.38% or 4.45 to $1166.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.39% or 0.73 to hit $53.06 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.30% or 0.72 to trade at $56.19 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.67% to 1.0476, while EUR/GBP rose 0.01% to 0.8504.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.63% at 102.59.
