Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Technology, Basic Resources and Software sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.72%, while the MDAX index declined 0.49%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.64%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG), which rose 0.75% or 0.095 points to trade at 12.825 at the close. Meanwhile, Allianz SE VNA O.N. (XETRA:ALVG) added 0.59% or 0.900 points to end at 153.400 and Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DBKGn) was up 0.31% or 0.095 points to 30.730 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (XETRA:IFXGn), which fell 6.34% or 0.710 points to trade at 10.490 at the close. K & S AG NA O.N. (XETRA:SDFGN) declined 2.74% or 1.035 points to end at 36.700 and Lanxess AG (XETRA:LXSG) was down 2.26% or 1.240 points to 53.600.

The top performers on the MDAX were Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which rose 2.58% to 15.700, Osram Licht (XETRA:OSRn) which was up 1.85% to settle at 49.999 and Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (XETRA:BOSSn) which gained 1.36% to close at 108.400.

The worst performers were Salzgitter AG O.N. (XETRA:SZGG) which was down 4.01% to 32.680 in late trade, Wacker Chemie O.N. (XETRA:WCHG) which lost 2.37% to settle at 89.390 and Fuchs Petrolub AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:FPEG_p) which was down 2.23% to 39.745 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which rose 6.92% to 30.455, Qiagen NV (XETRA:QGEN) which was up 1.28% to settle at 25.385 and PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (XETRA:PSAGn) which gained 1.08% to close at 11.730.

The worst performers were Dialog Semiconductor (XETRA:DLGS) which was down 5.22% to 49.730 in late trade, Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) which lost 2.78% to settle at 5.306 and CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (XETRA:COPMa) which was down 2.18% to 35.040 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 508 to 241 and 35 ended unchanged.

Shares in Qiagen NV (XETRA:QGEN) rose to all time highs; rising 1.28% or 0.320 to 25.385.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 2.00% to 17.84.

Gold for August delivery was down 1.06% or 11.70 to $1091.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.97% or 1.00 to hit $49.86 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.99% or 0.56 to trade at $56.48 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.53% to 1.0877, while EUR/GBP fell 0.85% to 0.6970.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.49% at 97.89.
