Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Transport, Warehousing and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.75%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toray Industries, Inc. (TYO:3402), which rose 6.95% or 50.30 points to trade at 773.90 at the close. Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4063) added 3.01% or 520.00 points to end at 17,780.00 and Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (TYO:4183) was up 2.58% or 80.00 points to 3,180.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TYO:7211), which lost 3.81% or 23.00 points to trade at 581.00 in late trade. J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (TYO:3086) declined 2.15% or 25.00 points to end at 1,137.00 and Hino Motors, Ltd. (TYO:7205) shed 1.68% or 10.00 points to 584.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2290 to 1225 and 294 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.91% to 18.95.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was up 0.04% or 0.03 to $75.42 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.01% or 0.01 to hit $80.67 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.27% or 4.95 to trade at $1,820.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.05% to 135.51, while EUR/JPY fell 0.10% to 143.96.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 103.68.
