Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment, Marine Transport and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (T:5801), which rose 5.13% or 210.0 points to trade at 4300.0 at the close. Minebea Mitsumi Inc (T:6479) added 3.28% or 50.0 points to end at 1576.0 and Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301) was up 3.27% or 16.0 points to 506.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Co. (T:8750), which lost 3.50% or 81.3 points to trade at 2243.0 in late trade. Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) declined 3.16% or 6.0 points to end at 183.8 and T&D Holdings, Inc. (T:8795) shed 3.11% or 58.5 points to 1825.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1949 to 1042 and 342 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.17% to 15.95.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for April delivery was up 1.33% or 0.65 to $49.51 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in May rose 1.39% or 0.72 to hit $52.53 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 2.31% or 27.70 to trade at $1228.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.34% to 113.00, while EUR/JPY fell 0.39% to 121.22.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 100.34.
