Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Communication and Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Maruha Nichiro Corp (T:1333), which rose 8.18% or 239.0 points to trade at 3160.0 at the close. Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301) added 7.37% or 52.0 points to end at 758.0 and Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T:4519) was up 4.89% or 220.0 points to 4715.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included DeNA Co Ltd (T:2432), which lost 3.66% or 97.0 points to trade at 2556.0 in late trade. Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5214) declined 2.88% or 120.0 points to end at 4050.0 and Meidensha Corp. (T:6508) shed 1.86% or 7.0 points to 369.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2259 to 913 and 304 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 6.38% to 12.61 a new 5-year low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.02% or 0.01 to $47.33 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $49.73 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.37% or 4.60 to trade at $1237.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.37% to 112.35, while EUR/JPY rose 0.26% to 129.25.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 94.79.
