Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Precision Instruments, Trading and Electrical/Machinery sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Amada Co., Ltd. (T:6113), which rose 4.50% or 58.0 points to trade at 1348.0 at the close. Tokyo Electron Ltd. (T:8035) added 4.37% or 685.0 points to end at 16375.0 and Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004) was up 3.86% or 83.0 points to 2236.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Toyobo Co., Ltd. (T:3101), which lost 2.05% or 4.0 points to trade at 191.0 in late trade. Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) declined 1.64% or 7.0 points to end at 419.0 and Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) shed 1.51% or 3.8 points to 247.9.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2313 to 752 and 308 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.42% to 13.90 a new 5-year low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 1.43% or 0.69 to $49.01 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 1.22% or 0.62 to hit $51.38 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.45% or 5.78 to trade at $1266.22 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.31% to 111.12, while EUR/JPY rose 0.13% to 124.72.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 97.06.
