Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Power, Gas & Water and Transport sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyu Corp. (TYO:9005), which rose 2.67% or 42.00 points to trade at 1,617.00 at the close. Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (TYO:2269) added 2.47% or 170.00 points to end at 7,040.00 and Tobu Railway Co., Ltd. (TYO:9001) was up 2.46% or 75.00 points to 3,120.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO:6506), which lost 4.06% or 185.00 points to trade at 4,375.00 in late trade. Eisai Co., Ltd. (TYO:4523) declined 3.74% or 237.00 points to end at 6,107.00 and Fanuc Corp. (TYO:6954) shed 3.09% or 695.00 points to 21,825.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2039 to 1488 and 281 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.14% to 20.08 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.87% or 0.82 to $93.88 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.82% or 0.81 to hit $97.57 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.10% or 1.80 to trade at $1,725.60 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.21% to 136.34, while EUR/JPY rose 0.14% to 139.10.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 106.55.
