Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Power, Non-Metal Minerals and Steel sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which rose 4.01% or 9.7 points to trade at 251.6 at the close. IHI Corp. (T:7013) added 3.81% or 15.0 points to end at 408.5 and Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501) was up 2.44% or 11.0 points to 461.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (T:7270), which lost 3.69% or 157.0 points to trade at 4099.0 in late trade. Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) declined 3.61% or 18.0 points to end at 481.0 and Maruha Nichiro Corp (T:1333) shed 3.36% or 110.0 points to 3160.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1608 to 1432 and 326 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.85% to 15.14.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.24% or 0.11 to $46.54 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.24% or 0.12 to hit $49.46 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.06% or 0.77 to trade at $1226.33 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.31% to 113.60, while EUR/JPY rose 0.19% to 123.96.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 99.15.
