Proactive Investors - Elon Musk’s xAI, his artificial intelligence firm, is set to open-source ‘Grok’, a chatbot aimed at rivalling OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Grok was released by xAI last year, boasting ‘real-time’ information and holding views which argued against the ‘politically correct’ approach.

Two months ago, the tech boss revealed he was no longer comfortable turning Tesla’s focus towards AI and robotics unless he has a minimum of 25% of voting power.

At the start of March, Musk sued OpenAI and its leader Sam Altman, alleging that management was losing sight of the start-up’s original aim to develop AI in the best interests for humanity.

“To this day, OpenAI’s website continues to profess that its charter is to ensure that AGI ‘benefits all of humanity.’ In reality, however, OpenAI has been transformed into a closed-source de facto subsidiary of the largest technology company in the world: Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT),” Musk’s lawsuit alleged.

Musk was a co-founder of OpenAI at its inception but the ChatGPT owner claims he left the company after failing to take control.

In a blog post responding to the lawsuit, OpenAI said: “We’re sad that it’s come to this with someone whom we’ve deeply admired — someone who inspired us to aim higher, then told us we would fail, started a competitor, and then sued us.”

Musk is alleged to have wanted to merge OpenAI with Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) and withheld funding while he demanded a majority stake, control of the board and a position as chief executive officer.
