Investing.com – Stocks jumped Tuesday and the briefly showed a gain of more than 300 points as Wall Street cheered third-quarter earnings.
The was up 1.1%. A gain of 300 points would be its second in three sessions. The , up 1.2%, was trading above 3,000. The index hasn't closed above 3,000 since Sept. 19. The was up 1.4%.
Catalysts included bullish earnings from JPMorgan Chase (NYSE:) and UnitedHealth Group (NYSE:), news of progress in settling a strike at General Motors (NYSE:) and a report that deputy-level trade talks between China and the United States will be held later this week.
JPMorgan, Home Depot (NYSE:) and homebuilder PulteGroup (NYSE:) were among stocks hitting new highs.
