Proactive Investors - OpenAI has formed a Safety and Security Committee led by board members including CEO Sam Altman and as it begins training its “next frontier” AI model.
The Microsoft-backed AI startup said in a blog post on Tuesday that the committee will be responsible for making recommendations to the full board on “critical safety and security decisions” for its projects and operations.
Its first task will be to evaluate and develop OpenAI’s processes and safeguards over the next 90 days.
After 90 days, the committee will share its recommendations with the full board and, following the full board’s review, OpenAI will update the public on adopted recommendations.
“While we are proud to build and release models that are industry-leading on both capabilities and safety, we welcome a robust debate at this important moment,” OpenAI said in the blog post.
In addition to Altman, the committee will be led by directors Bret Taylor, Adam D’Angelo and Nicole Seligman.
Open AI technical and policy experts Aleksander Madry, Lilian Weng, John Schulman, Matt Knight and Jakub Pachocki will also be on the committee.
Further, the company said it will retain and consult with other safety, security and technical experts to support the committee.
