In a series of strategic partnerships, Panasonic (OTC:PCRFY) Avionics is bolstering its in-flight connectivity (IFC) capabilities. The company has entered into a multi-year agreement with Sky Perfect JSAT (JSAT) and also partnered with Airbus on a high bandwidth connectivity solution.

The partnership with JSAT, announced on Monday, aims to increase domestic IFC revenues through the delivery of higher-speed internet and enhancement of in-flight experiences over Japan. This will be accomplished using the Superbird-9, a next-gen satellite based on Airbus’ OneSat system that was ordered in 2021. Boasting the largest capacity in JSAT's fleet, the Superbird-9 can dynamically modify its service area, capacity, and frequency to respond to market fluctuations while in orbit. Services are expected to commence in the first half of 2027. Until then, an interim capacity boost for Panasonic Avionics will be implemented incrementally using other satellites.

In addition to the JSAT agreement, Panasonic Avionics has teamed up with Airbus for HBCplus, a high bandwidth connectivity solution that will be available as a retrofit or line-fit catalogue option on all aircraft programs. Led by John Wade, Panasonic Avionics will deploy an electronically steered antenna with multi-beam operation to incorporate its multi-orbit connectivity service, merging LEO and GEO satellite constellations, onto Airbus aircraft. This includes OneWeb’s global service and a GEO service that spans 99.6% of worldwide flight routes.

The solution aligns with Panasonic's multi-orbit strategy and aims to enhance passenger experience by reducing latency to below 100 milliseconds. The HBCplus has already been selected by over 70 top airlines due to its extensive coverage.
