Investing.com – Spain equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Telecoms & IT, Consumer Goods and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Madrid, the IBEX 35 declined 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the IBEX 35 were Endesa (MC:ELE), which rose 2.32% or 0.425 points to trade at 18.755 at the close. Aena Aeropuertos SA (MC:AENA) added 1.08% or 1.35 points to end at 126.15 and Mediaset ESP (MC:TL5) was up 0.97% or 0.093 points to 9.680 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Banco Popular (MC:POP), which lost 3.21% or 0.029 points to trade at 0.873 in late trade. Bankia (MC:BKIA) declined 1.96% or 0.017 points to end at 0.852 and Gas Natural (MC:GAS) shed 1.22% or 0.200 points to 16.175.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 112 to 94 and 17 ended unchanged on the Madrid Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 1.84% or 22.25 to $1188.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.21% or 0.10 to hit $48.13 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.12% or 0.06 to trade at $49.18 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.59% to 1.0562, while EUR/GBP fell 0.92% to 0.8473.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.52% at 101.62.
