Proactive Investors - Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is recalling 3,878 of its Cybertrucks due to an issue with the accelerator pad, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Friday.
The faulty accelerator pad could come loose and get lodged in the interior trim causing the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally and therefore increasing the risk of a crash, the auto regulator said.
The recall impacts all 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured from November 13, 2023, to April 4, 2024, effectively every Cybertruck ever delivered to customers since Tesla’s launch event last year.
The fault is estimated to present in 100% of the 3,878 vehicles.
Tesla will repair or replace the accelerator pedal assembly at no charge to customers.
The company is not aware of any collisions, injuries or deaths as a result of the pedal fault as of April 15.
During the first quarter of 2024, Tesla had three recalls impacting about 2.4 million vehicles.
In February, 2.2 million Tesla vehicles in the US were recalled due to the font on warning light panels being too small to comply with safety standards. This was rectified with an over-the-air software update.
Shares of Tesla traded lower following the news, down 1.1% at about $148 late morning on Friday.
