Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Automobiles & Parts and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 4.23% or 109.5 points to trade at 2699.5 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 2.70% or 7.11 points to end at 270.51 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) was up 2.73% or 9.90 points to 372.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 6.56% or 177.00 points to trade at 2523.00 in late trade. Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) declined 3.78% or 55.50 points to end at 1413.50 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 3.69% or 6.12 points to 159.78.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1285 to 1027 and 105 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.04% or 0.70 to $1836.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.45% or 0.26 to hit $58.62 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.41% or 0.25 to trade at $61.47 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.24% to 1.3847, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.8763.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 90.323.
