Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Chemicals and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG), which rose 4.43% or 58.50 points to trade at 1380.00 at the close. Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) added 3.53% or 102.0 points to end at 2995.0 and ITV PLC (LON:ITV) was up 3.21% or 3.19 points to 102.49 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB), which lost 2.93% or 192.0 points to trade at 6361.4 in late trade. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) declined 2.94% or 89.3 points to end at 2945.7 and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) shed 2.00% or 40.00 points to 1957.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1205 to 1095 and 86 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.16% or 3.05 to $1852.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.47% or 0.25 to hit $52.52 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.18% or 0.10 to trade at $55.58 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.46% to 1.3738, while EUR/GBP fell 0.23% to 0.8853.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 90.160.
