Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Financial Services and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were 3I Group PLC (LON:III), which rose 4.18% or 50.00 points to trade at 1,247.00 at the close. Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) added 3.99% or 435.00 points to end at 11,330.00 and Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP) was up 3.92% or 55.50 points to 1,472.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 9.44% or 73.80 points to trade at 707.80 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 3.02% or 4.15 points to end at 133.50 and Avast PLC (LON:AVST) shed 2.88% or 15.20 points to 511.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 995 to 792 and 473 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.69% or 11.65 to $1,711.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.77% or 2.77 to hit $97.11 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 2.07% or 2.21 to trade at $104.71 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 1.20, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.18% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 106.88.
