Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Mobile Telecommunications and General Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.14% to hit a new 3-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 5.27% or 40.00 points to trade at 799.80 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) added 5.18% or 39.80 points to end at 808.00 and Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) was up 2.71% or 310.00 points to 11,760.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO), which lost 1.98% or 123.00 points to trade at 6,096.00 in late trade. BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) declined 1.72% or 48.50 points to end at 2,765.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) shed 1.47% or 1.60 points to 107.16.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1120 to 720 and 451 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.25% or 4.80 to $1,916.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.15% or 0.92 to hit $79.19 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.13% or 0.96 to trade at $84.32 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.31% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.24% to 0.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 102.17.
