Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Banking and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which rose 4.27% or 40.60 points to trade at 991.60 at the close. Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) added 3.51% or 1.53 points to end at 45.10 and BP PLC (LON:BP) was up 3.12% or 9.20 points to 304.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 4.11% or 36.40 points to trade at 850.20 in late trade. Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RKT) declined 3.92% or 258.0 points to end at 6328.0 and AVEVA Group PLC (LON:AVV) shed 3.79% or 140.0 points to 3555.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1130 to 1098 and 229 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.22% or 3.95 to $1774.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.78% or 1.12 to hit $64.06 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.67% or 1.10 to trade at $66.97 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.03% to 1.3908, while EUR/GBP rose 0.09% to 0.8694.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 90.830.
