Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Beverage and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 3.51% or 73.50 points to trade at 2,168.50 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 2.91% or 17.00 points to end at 601.50 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 2.76% or 61.00 points to 2,269.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Segro Plc (LON:SGRO), which lost 2.04% or 17.20 points to trade at 827.60 in late trade. Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX) declined 1.82% or 8.80 points to end at 476.00 and Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) shed 1.72% or 20.00 points to 1,143.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 900 to 802 and 739 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.41% or 9.90 to $2,397.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 2.58% or 2.20 to hit $83.16 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 2.58% or 2.32 to trade at $87.70 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.18% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.00% at 106.07.
