Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Oil & Gas Producers and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 4.36% or 30.40 points to trade at 728.00 at the close. NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC) added 3.18% or 73.00 points to end at 2371.00 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was up 2.39% or 5.10 points to 218.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH), which lost 4.84% or 192.00 points to trade at 3775.00 in late trade. Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) declined 3.57% or 5.30 points to end at 143.10 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) shed 3.43% or 22.20 points to 625.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1278 to 828 and 192 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.19% or 2.95 to $1548.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.58% or 0.87 to hit $55.80 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.59% or 0.94 to trade at $59.97 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.44% to 1.2233, while EUR/GBP rose 0.40% to 0.9059.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 98.072.
