Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Construction & Materials and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 3.18% or 3.95 points to trade at 128.00 at the close. BP PLC (LON:BP) added 2.46% or 11.20 points to end at 466.60 and ITV PLC (LON:ITV) was up 1.99% or 1.38 points to 70.82 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 4.24% or 26.00 points to trade at 587.00 in late trade. London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSEG) declined 2.81% or 206.00 points to end at 7,134.00 and Rightmove PLC (LON:RMV) shed 2.75% or 14.60 points to 516.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1017 to 764 and 470 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.10% or 1.75 to $1,798.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.93% or 1.44 to hit $75.90 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.44% or 1.14 to trade at $80.18 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.31% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.10% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 104.14.
