Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Automobiles & Parts and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.89% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 5.39% or 92.0 points to trade at 1799.0 at the close. DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) added 2.94% or 12.10 points to end at 424.40 and Informa PLC (LON:INF) was up 2.80% or 16.00 points to 586.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF), which lost 1.33% or 210.0 points to trade at 15535.0 in late trade. London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSEG) declined 1.25% or 92.0 points to end at 7278.0 and AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) shed 1.17% or 84.0 points to 7099.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1349 to 926 and 201 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.05% or 0.85 to $1742.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.92% or 1.14 to hit $58.19 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.72% or 1.08 to trade at $61.66 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.51% to 1.3752, while EUR/GBP rose 0.67% to 0.8646.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 92.312.
