Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Industrial Metals & Mining and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which rose 2.06% or 2.35 points to trade at 116.25 at the close. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 1.61% or 1.46 points to end at 91.98 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) was up 1.61% or 33.00 points to 2,085.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 7.99% or 11.80 points to trade at 135.85 in late trade. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) declined 2.93% or 3.96 points to end at 131.28 and BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) shed 2.30% or 59.00 points to 2,506.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1000 to 760 and 492 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.34% or 6.20 to $1,819.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.88% or 2.17 to hit $77.56 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.74% or 2.21 to trade at $82.89 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.58% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.24% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 103.29.
