Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Tobacco and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 2.69% or 35.00 points to trade at 1337.00 at the close. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) added 2.64% or 95.00 points to end at 3694.50 and Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) was up 2.53% or 9.60 points to 389.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which lost 2.09% or 105.00 points to trade at 4917.00 in late trade. Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) declined 1.98% or 37.00 points to end at 1829.00 and Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) shed 1.98% or 67.00 points to 3323.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1052 to 958 and 391 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.54% or 6.88 to $1278.68 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.35% or 0.19 to hit $54.09 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.35% or 0.21 to trade at $60.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.59% to 1.3210, while EUR/GBP fell 0.29% to 0.8809.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 94.45.
