Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Tobacco, Mobile Telecommunications and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO), which rose 2.92% or 164.00 points to trade at 5,780.00 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 2.42% or 3.40 points to end at 144.10 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 2.22% or 19.20 points to 885.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSEG), which lost 6.44% or 508.00 points to trade at 7,380.00 in late trade. Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP) declined 4.89% or 59.50 points to end at 1,157.00 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) shed 3.72% or 4.35 points to 112.55.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1030 to 694 and 502 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.11% or 2.00 to $1,800.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $72.03 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.45% or 0.35 to trade at $76.82 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.16% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 104.87.
