Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were GSK plc (LON:GSK), which rose 1.91% or 32.00 points to trade at 1,705.00 at the close. Unite Group PLC (LON:UTG) added 1.29% or 12.00 points to end at 940.00 and DCC plc (LON:DCC) was up 1.28% or 70.00 points to 5,555.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD), which lost 2.98% or 3.45 points to trade at 112.15 in late trade. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) declined 2.88% or 168.00 points to end at 5,674.00 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) shed 2.83% or 10.00 points to 343.10.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 636 to 558 and 1132 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.52% or 11.95 to $2,314.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 3.27% or 2.68 to hit $79.25 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 3.06% or 2.64 to trade at $83.69 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.06% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.16% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 106.13.
