Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Banking and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.83%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA), which rose 1.28% or 61.00 points to trade at 4,830.00 at the close. Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) added 0.36% or 3.40 points to end at 962.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) was up 0.35% or 0.45 points to 130.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 5.77% or 21.00 points to trade at 342.90 in late trade. Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX) declined 4.66% or 23.70 points to end at 484.80 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) shed 4.45% or 29.60 points to 635.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1440 to 378 and 623 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.90% or 21.55 to $2,404.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $85.41 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.06 to trade at $90.04 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.13% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.14% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 106.12.
