Employers likely maintained a fairly strong pace of hiring in December, Labor Department data is
expected to show, underscoring the economy's healthy fundamentals despite a sputtering
manufacturing sector. Labor market strength could bolster expectations of another interest rate
hike from the Federal Reserve in March. Nonfarm payrolls likely increased 200,000 last month,
according to a survey of economists, on top of the 211,000 added in November. (0830/1330)
Meanwhile, unemployment rate for December is seen unchanged at a 7-1/2 year-low of 5 percent.

Statistics Canada releases building permits data, which is expected to have dropped 3 percent in
November after jumping 9.1 percent in October. (0830/1330) Separately, the economy likely added
10,000 jobs last month after shedding 35,700 jobs in November, with unemployment rate for
December seen unchanged at 7.1 percent. (0830/1330)

Brazil's inflation is estimated to have topped 10 percent in recent months, way above the
official 4.5 percent target, as the government fails to reduce budget deficit. Consumer prices
likely rose 1.05 percent in December. (0600/1100) Separately, Chile releases inflation data for
December. (0600/1100)
