Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Healthcare, Financials and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.02%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.02%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Visa Inc (NYSE:V), which rose 0.98% or 0.77 points to trade at 79.48 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 0.96% or 0.33 points to end at 34.58 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 0.74% or 0.42 points to 57.39 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which lost 0.97% or 0.93 points to trade at 95.16 in late trade. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) declined 0.74% or 1.01 points to end at 136.05 and Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) shed 0.50% or 0.66 points to 131.21.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Ball Corporation (NYSE:BLL) which rose 12.00% to 78.51, Harman International Industries (NYSE:HAR) which was up 7.00% to settle at 87.54 and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (NYSE:RCL) which gained 6.59% to close at 73.30.
The worst performers were CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:CF) which was down 12.60% to 21.43 in late trade, First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which lost 11.21% to settle at 43.72 and Henry Schein Inc (NASDAQ:HSIC) which was down 8.99% to 163.53 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were SAExploration Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SAEX) which rose 336.30% to 40.750, Check Cap Ltd (NASDAQ:CHEK) which was up 75.54% to settle at 2.440 and Real Goods Solar Inc (NASDAQ:RGSE) which gained 41.83% to close at 8.9001.
The worst performers were EPIRUS Biopharmaceuticals Inc (OTC:EPRSQ) which was down 42.86% to 0.080 in late trade, Bravo Brio Restaurant Group Inc (NASDAQ:BBRG) which lost 33.29% to settle at 5.27 and Jason Industries Inc (NASDAQ:JASN) which was down 30.57% to 2.673 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1843 to 1413 and 29 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1297 fell and 1247 advanced, while 71 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.89% to 12.36.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.16% or 2.20 to $1366.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.30% or 0.94 to hit $41.77 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.46% or 1.06 to trade at $44.16 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.18% to 1.1129, while USD/JPY fell 0.02% to 101.23.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.25% at 95.73.
