Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 2.93% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3), which rose 1.12% or 0.06 points to trade at 5.42 at the close. Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) added 0.83% or 0.11 points to end at 13.43 and CPFL Energia SA (SA:CPFE3) was up 0.12% or 0.03 points to 25.62 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which lost 9.22% or 0.53 points to trade at 5.22 in late trade. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) declined 8.95% or 0.98 points to end at 9.97 and Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) shed 8.51% or 1.94 points to 20.86.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 287 to 74 and 28 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 10.74% to 33.30.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.87% or 10.75 to $1244.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.23% or 0.60 to hit $48.31 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 0.34% or 0.50 to trade at $144.52 .
USD/BRL was up 0.39% to 3.0843, while EUR/BRL rose 1.12% to 3.3354.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.63% at 99.53.
