Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Healthcare and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE), which rose 6.07% or 0.66 points to trade at 11.54 at the close. Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ) added 5.34% or 1.79 points to end at 35.30 and Denison Mines Corp (TSX:DML) was up 5.05% or 0.14 points to 2.91 in late trade.
Biggest losers included First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which lost 3.83% or 0.70 points to trade at 17.57 in late trade. Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) declined 2.46% or 0.44 points to end at 17.47 and West Fraser Timber Co Ltd (TSX:WFG) shed 2.42% or 2.60 points to 104.90.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 604 to 358 and 95 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.10% to 13.82.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.01% or 0.35 to $2,347.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.37% or 1.15 to hit $82.70 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.09% or 0.96 to trade at $87.25 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.22% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 105.50.
