Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, Healthcare and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb), which rose 7.77% or 3.46 points to trade at 48.01 at the close. Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) added 6.82% or 1.05 points to end at 16.45 and Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) was up 5.75% or 0.25 points to 4.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included TC Energy Corp (TSX:TRP), which lost 6.30% or 4.12 points to trade at 61.26 in late trade. Saputo Inc (TSX:SAP) declined 5.92% or 2.03 points to end at 32.26 and ECN Capital Corp (TSX:ECN) shed 3.76% or 0.12 points to 3.07.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 695 to 335 and 85 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.80% to 17.69.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.46% or 8.05 to $1,748.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.88% or 1.45 to hit $78.69 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.93% or 0.78 to trade at $84.67 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.61% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.51% to 0.71.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 106.75.
