Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Utilities and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (TO:GC), which rose 17.32% or 7.36 points to trade at 49.86 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) added 6.87% or 3.610 points to end at 56.140 and AltaGas Ltd (TO:ALA) was up 6.72% or 1.01 points to 16.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN), which lost 7.95% or 0.66 points to trade at 7.64 in late trade. Alaris Royalty Corp . (TO:AD) declined 6.79% or 1.330 points to end at 18.260 and MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd (TO:MAXR) shed 6.47% or 1.45 points to 20.95.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 600 to 484 and 121 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.67% to 18.29.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.13% or 1.60 to $1228.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.43% or 0.90 to hit $62.20 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.46% or 1.07 to trade at $72.10 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.13% to 0.7617, while CAD/EUR fell 0.21% to 0.6671.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.00% at 96.09.
