Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Materials and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.32% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAAC), which rose 10.82% or 0.70 points to trade at 7.17 at the close. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) added 7.73% or 0.52 points to end at 7.25 and Orla Mining Ltd (TSX:OLA) was up 6.69% or 0.32 points to 5.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Paramount Resources Ltd . (TSX:POU), which lost 12.37% or 3.88 points to trade at 27.48 in late trade. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) declined 10.34% or 3.55 points to end at 30.78 and Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) shed 4.08% or 0.53 points to 12.47.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 599 to 357 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.16% to 11.97.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.55% or 11.75 to $2,153.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.25% or 0.98 to hit $79.13 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.07% or 0.88 to trade at $82.92 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.57% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.22% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 103.34.
