Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND), which rose 7.94% or 3.23 points to trade at 43.93 at the close. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) added 7.91% or 2.18 points to end at 29.75 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) was up 7.71% or 1.37 points to 19.13 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI), which lost 17.38% or 1.68 points to trade at 7.96 in late trade. SunOpta Inc . (TSX:SOY) declined 5.85% or 0.97 points to end at 15.62 and AcuityAds Holdings Inc (TSX:AT) shed 4.68% or 0.690 points to 14.040.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 554 to 470 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.17% or 3.05 to $1780.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.23% or 0.14 to hit $62.00 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.43% or 0.28 to trade at $65.14 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.68% to 0.8065, while CAD/EUR rose 0.76% to 0.6670.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 90.787.
