Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which rose 7.23% or 0.17 points to trade at 2.52 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) added 5.43% or 0.26 points to end at 5.05 and NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) was up 4.71% or 0.18 points to 4.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN), which lost 4.68% or 0.89 points to trade at 18.14 in late trade. Lundin Mining Corporation (TSX:LUN) declined 3.42% or 0.54 points to end at 15.25 and Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS) shed 2.61% or 0.24 points to 8.97.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 623 to 313 and 112 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.11% to 14.03.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.44% or 10.25 to $2,336.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.83% or 1.50 to hit $83.40 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.67% or 1.45 to trade at $88.45 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.27% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.16% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 105.54.
