Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.89% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG), which rose 9.40% or 1.15 points to trade at 13.39 at the close. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) added 7.67% or 0.24 points to end at 3.37 and New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) was up 7.28% or 0.16 points to 2.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which lost 1.89% or 1.19 points to trade at 61.79 in late trade. Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:AAV) declined 1.87% or 0.19 points to end at 9.69 and Open Text Corp (TSX:OTEX) shed 1.56% or 0.83 points to 52.66.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 728 to 234 and 97 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.60% to 10.50.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.67% or 14.50 to $2,191.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.09% or 0.07 to hit $81.69 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.02 to trade at $85.65 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.15% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 104.01.
