Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.60%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BRP Inc. (TO:DOO), which rose 6.45% or 1.85 points to trade at 30.53 at the close. Encana Corporation (TO:ECA) added 5.23% or 0.74 points to end at 14.90 and TORC Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:TOG) was up 4.16% or 0.27 points to 6.76 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG), which lost 9.60% or 2.66 points to trade at 25.06 in late trade. Goldcorp Inc. (TO:G) declined 6.90% or 1.48 points to end at 19.98 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG) shed 5.56% or 1.510 points to 25.660.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 733 to 429 and 122 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 12.57% to 12.63.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.36% or 4.55 to $1251.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.36% or 0.65 to hit $48.38 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.00% or 0.51 to trade at $51.41 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.20% to 0.7466, while CAD/EUR rose 0.41% to 0.6909.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.48% at 99.51.
