Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Consumer Discretionary, Financials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO), which rose 17.23% or 0.5600 points to trade at 3.8100 at the close. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) added 11.33% or 1.13 points to end at 11.10 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) was up 8.02% or 0.38 points to 5.12 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Gran Tierra Energy Inc (TSX:GTE), which lost 5.52% or 0.080 points to trade at 1.370 in late trade. Enerflex Ltd . (TSX:EFX) declined 4.79% or 0.52 points to end at 10.33 and Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) shed 4.19% or 0.07 points to 1.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 559 to 456 and 139 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.69% to 12.22.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.10% or 1.45 to $1495.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.35% or 0.72 to hit $54.08 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $59.94 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7611, while CAD/EUR rose 0.00% to 0.6841.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.41% at 97.322.
