Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Consumer Staples and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI), which rose 32.27% or 9.48 points to trade at 38.86 at the close. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) added 10.64% or 0.25 points to end at 2.60 and Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET) was up 5.04% or 0.77 points to 16.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which lost 6.79% or 0.26 points to trade at 3.57 in late trade. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) declined 5.35% or 0.20 points to end at 3.54 and New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) shed 3.48% or 0.08 points to 2.22.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 476 to 463 and 122 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.86% to 12.12.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.09% or 2.05 to $2,163.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.11% or 1.70 to hit $82.28 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.97% or 1.68 to trade at $87.02 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.21% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 103.25.
